Externships at Woodside Equine Clinic
The goal of the externship program at Woodside is to provide a comprehensive learning experience in all aspects of an advanced and progressive equine clinic.
The high volume caseload will enhance the individual’s clinical competency, diagnostic skills and communication skills. Mentoring will be provided by 8 experienced clinicians/ veterinarians in the fields of lameness, surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, reproduction, acupuncture and chiropractic, as well as advanced dentistry.
Students should have completed at least one year of veterinary school. The practice will ensure that the student has the opportunity to spend time with each clinician and participate in all activities. The primary goal is to give the student an in-depth exposure to the type of experience available as an intern. Externs are required to assist the current interns with treatment of hospital cases; observe clinicians in diagnostic and therapeutic care of hospital cases and out-patients; as well as accompany clinicians on ambulatory calls. This will include emergency cases.
Student must provide their own health insurance and AVMA PLIT liability insurance with proof of payment of annual fee. We have two slots for housing on-site. Students will also be expected to provide their own transportation to and from the clinic. Please feel free to contact us for more information.

Testimonials:
“I really enjoyed my externship at Woodside! They provide equine students with a perfect mix of ambulatory and hospital experiences. Moreover, they have a talented group of doctors with specialties that include surgery, sports medicine, reproduction, and dentistry. The crew there is very welcoming and everyone is eager to involve and teach students.” Wynnie Long Angus
“It was truly fantastic, and I believe that the clinic’s thoughtful mentorship of its interns and externs has helped reaffirm my commitment to the equine path in veterinary medicine”. Callan Cooper
“The culture at Woodside is amazing. Not only was I treated with respect, but everyone treated each other with respect. I loved being able to look at the schedule and ride along, or stay in house, to see appointments that peaked my interest and being able to be in charge of who I was going with. My favorite part was how personable all of the vets are and how I was able to talk about more than just vet med things” Andrea Lindgren
