Veterinarians
Scott Anderson, DVM
Dr. Scott Anderson graduated in the inaugural class (1984) of the Virginia/Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. He attended the Eastern School of Farriery and was a practicing farrier prior to becoming a veterinarian. He initially worked in a practice in Pennsylvania attending to farm animals, dogs and cats but after a year narrowed his scope of practice to horses as an intern in Raleigh, NC.
A New England native and a resident of the Richmond area for more than 30 years, Dr. Anderson joined Woodside Equine Clinic as an associate and then purchased the practice from Dr. Milton Kingsbury in 1989.
With a focus in Sports Medicine and Lameness, he was one of the first veterinarians in the United States to become certified in equine acupuncture by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS). He is also certified in veterinary chiropractic medicine through the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA). Today, in his practice, he excels at examining horses in search of areas of discomfort, diagnosing and treating problems and developing a plan to achieve peak performance.
Dr. Anderson lives on a horse farm with his wife Laura and daughter Arianna. They have an ever changing number of animals usually totaling well over forty between their horses, dogs and cats. Dr. Anderson is an avid mountain and road biker and also enjoys skiing.

David Stanford , DVM, DACT
Dr. David Stanford is a 1988 graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. After completing an internship and one year of practice in Pennsylvania, Dr. Stanford moved to the Richmond area and has been in equine practice in this region ever since. He has been with Woodside for 19 years. Dr. Stanford enjoys all aspects of equine practice but after many years in general practice he decided to follow his passion for equine reproduction and became Board Certified in Theriogenology (animal reproduction) in 1997. More recently he has also developed a strong interest in equine podiatry and enjoys working with farriers to help correct problems associated with the horses hoof.
Dr. Stanford grew up in Maryland spending most of his free time at the barn as a hunter and equitation rider or on a field as a soccer player. When his junior riding days were over, he attended the University of Delaware, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. His goal to become a veterinarian started at a very early age because it combines his love of horses, science, and the outdoors. When he isn’t working, Dr. Dave enjoys spending time with his family, watching his kids play volleyball, volunteering at his church, and trying to stay in shape.

Charlotte Tate, DVM
Dr. Tate is a 2011 graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. After vet school, she accepted an internship at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center. During her internship she broadened her knowledge base in medicine, surgery, and emergency and critical care with additional elective rotations in the Sports Medicine and Imaging Departments. At the conclusion of her internship she accepted a position with North Atlantic Equine Associates in New Jersey where she worked at Monmouth and Belmont racetracks. Dr. Tate found that working within the Thoroughbred racing industry furthered her practical knowledge due to the volume and diversity of the cases that she managed. Dr. Tate is very interested in lameness and diagnosis in the equine athlete and because of this interest she has focused much of her continuing education toward lameness diagnostics and imaging. She has completed courses in ultrasound guided injection techniques as well as advanced courses in ultrasounding the distal limb. She has completed training in veterinary chiropractic at Parker University in Dallas, TX.
Dr. Charlotte Tate grew up in North Carolina where her grandmother taught riding and bred Welsh ponies. She participated in Pony Club and later moved to show jumping, combined training and eventually Eventing. She spent many years as a working student with Professional Eventers and competed up to the Intermediate level. Over the years, injuries to her personal horses and the rehabilitation necessary to return them to athletic performance were what inspired her interest in veterinary medicine.
Dr. Tate resides in Fredericksburg, Virginia with her Corgi Bridget and cats, Jade and Zemi. Dr. Tate has recently purchased a OTTB named Rice Bird and is training him to event. She is happy to be living close to her family in North Carolina. Dr. Tate also enjoys running and Crossfit.

She is a beginner banjo enthusiast and would like to try white water kayaking again, which she once took as a class in college. After that internship she wasn’t sure how she wanted to proceed in her career as an equine veterinarian, so she started a sports medicine internship at University of Minnesota. This then turned into a surgical internship and three year surgical residency. Dr. Booth loves emergency surgery, wound care, lameness and upper airway surgery. After 5 years of surgical training she is excited to finally get to come back to the East Coast! (She doesn’t recommend the Minnesota winters to anyone.)
Dr. Booth is married to Dr. Kourgelis. They have the three dogs Posey (lab), Luigi (Italian Spinone) and Lola(GSP). They love to hike with their dogs and take them swimming. In her youth, she had that classic animal lover’s dream of being a veterinarian, but after working in a small animal practice, realized she was just too soft natured to be good at it. Instead, she got good at business accounting and after many years of working in CPA firms, has found her “happy place” at Woodside serving and supporting the amazing medical team that she calls her super heroes. Venus
Venus is a 2001 warmblood mare who arrived at Woodside in 2010 after a bone cyst in her shoulder and other lamenesses prematurely ended her showing career. The first horse you see when you pull into the clinic, Venus mostly spends her days out grazing in her pasture or in her stall in front of a fan. When she is called to action, Venus teaches new assistants, veterinary students, and our interns a variety of skills and donates blood to patients in the hospital. She has a mareish personality, but don’t let her pinned ears fool you, Venus is secretly a huge cuddle bug and loves scratches and peppermints!
Boxter
Boxter moved to Woodside in 2010 and specializes in patient relations. Whether it is moving paddocks to comfort patients, spending time in neighboring stalls in the hospital barn, or teaching horses how to load on trailers when they don’t want to leave Woodside, Boxter is the man for the job. Boxter is now retired from his show career and is enjoying his retirement job at Woodside.
Harley
Harley is a 2008 Thoroughbred mare who trained but never raced. Her racename is Tale Of A Cure and Woodside gave her the barn name Harley for Lee’s love of the motorcycle! Harley works in stallion relations and is always available to receive treats and attention! She and Boxter enjoy spending time out in the field together during their time off from work.
Harry
Harry came to Woodside as a kitten in 2022 after being found by one of our assistants in her backyard. He is a feisty little guy whose duties at Woodside include chair warming services in Angie’s office, closely inspecting any boxes or baskets, supervising lab work, and providing adjustments to the printer. He is our only team member on call 24/7 and is always quick to spring into action when there’s a bug that needs to be caught or a coworker who needs help taking inventory of their kitty treats. Harry provides us all with constant entertainment, laughs, and the occasional cuddle (but only if you’re lucky).
Noodle
Kendra
Kendra is Woodside's resident mouser and has the very important job of keeping pests away so we can provide top quality care to our patients! Kendra came to Woodside in 2023 from Richmond Animal Care & Control after it was decided she would be best suited to living outdoors. She may seem sweet on first glance, but don't try to pet her, she's a feisty one! When not on the job, Kendra enjoys napping on hay bales, observing lameness exams, and begging our hospital staff for treats.
