Charlotte Tate, DVM
Dr. Charlotte Tate grew up in North Carolina where her grandmother taught riding and bred Welsh ponies. When her father retired from the navy the family moved to Southern Pines, North Carolina where they bought a small farm.
As a child her first pony was a Shetland pony named “Busy Bee”. She rode in local Pony Clubs into her teenage years where she participated in rallies and other events. She also represented the region in the finals at the Pony Club nationals in Lexington Kentucky.
When she was older she started eventing. Injuries to her personal horses and getting them back into work are what inspired her interest in veterinary medicine.
After graduating from veterinary school from the University Of Georgia, Dr. Tate accepted an internship at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center. During her internship she broadened her knowledge base in medicine, surgery, and emergency and critical care with additional elective rotations in the Sports Medicine and Imaging Departments.
At the conclusion of her internship she accepted a position with North Atlantic Equine Associates in New Jersey where she frequently worked at Monmouth race track. Dr. Tate found that working within the thoroughbred racing industry furthered her practical knowledge due to the volume and diversity of cases she managed.
Dr. Tate is very interested in lameness and diagnosis in the equine athlete and because of this interest she has focused much of her continuing education toward lameness diagnostics and imaging.
Dr. Tate resides in Fredericksburg, Virginia area with her two Corgi’s “Chester” and “Bridget”. She is happy that she will be living close to her parents and sister in North Carolina and her brother who lives in Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Tate enjoys running and cycling (both road and mountain), and participating in triathlons.
