In early December I went to my first AAEP (American Association of Equine Practitioners) Annual Convention in Las Vegas.
Vegas scares me– the lights, the noise, the smoke but with Ryan, one of our LVTs, as my roomie I was ready to forgo my fear to see friends and mentors, meet other practitioners and learn new things about horse medicine.
Along with Ryan who was attending AAEVT (American Association of Equine Veterinary Technicians) convention and taking the medicine nursing boards–SHE PASSED!!!, Drs. Anderson, True, Bolam, and Wolfe also traveled to Las Vegas. The convention offers large lectures on emerging topics and smaller round table discussions on everything from lameness to how to negotiate maternity leave. I seriously nerded out–many of the speakers are at the forefront of their field and I was excited to bring new info back to WEC.
A large trade show accompanies the convention, which showcases the latest pharmaceuticals, supplements, technology, and tools of our trade. I picked up a new vest because I wouldn’t’ be an equine vet without one 🙂 I also picked up some trade show swag A.K.A. pens, flash drives, notepads, etc. but Purina had a photo op with a Budweiser Clydesdale. We see horses everyday but Dr. True and I had to get a photo with that gorgeous giant!
We certainly learned a lot and had a blast!
Dr. Wolfe was an awesome sport scooting around after a recent surgery. It was a quick 4 days and then back to reality at WEC and WNEC!
