Dr. Hammond’s inspiration for a medical career stems from her family. Her father is a physician and her grandfather is a veterinarian who helped to found the Virginia/ Maryland School of Veterinary Medicine. Her love of horses started at a young age when she started riding and showing horses. She worked as a veterinary assistant in high school and through college, where she attended the University of Virginia. During vet school, she rode with equine practitioners on their calls, worked as a large animal technician in the school’s hospital and was an active member of the Student Chapter of Equine Practitioners.
Dr. Hammond grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia but she and her family have settled here in the Richmond area. She enjoys outdoor activities such as riding, hiking, skiing and trips to the beach.
