Jonathan Hirsch, MS, DVM, Diplomate ACVS
Dr. Jonathan Hirsch is a graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Following vet school, he completed an internship at San Luis Rey Equine Hospital in California and then returned to Virginia working as an ambulatory veterinarian. He later completed a surgical/medical fellowship at Oregon State and a large animal surgical residency at UC Davis.
Dr. Hirsch is board certified in Large Animal Surgery from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. His main areas of interest are in general surgery, sports medicine and emergency medicine. He finds the practice of equine veterinary medicine and surgery continually challenging and extremely rewarding and notes that each horse and each condition represents a unique diagnostic and treatment opportunity. He gains great satisfaction in helping alleviate the discomfort of horses and enabling these athletes to return to peak performance. Dr. Hirsch is a FEI Official Veterinarian for Dressage and an active participant in the International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology.
Dr. Hirsch grew up on a small horse farm in Charlottesville, VA where he was actively involved in the care of the horses, cats, dogs and chickens who resided there. He earned a Classics degree from Randolph-Macon College and a Master’s in Biology from Virginia Commonwealth University. When not practicing veterinary medicine, Dr. Hirsch enjoys time with his wife, Wendy and their two children, Ellie and Jacob. He also enjoys running and biking and taking trips to the beach.
